Bradford Newborn Photography | Newborn Victoria

Meet Victoria!

I was so excited to hear this family’s baby news – I was right, it’s a girl!  Isn’t she the sweetest little baby?  So pretty in pink, and blue too, a colour I don’t often use for girls.  What a beautiful newborn session, it was a pleasure to spend time with and photograph this lovely family.

Enjoy your sneak peek Victoria and family!  I can’t wait to show you the rest.

Brand New Baby | Sutton Ontario Photographer

Sweet baby Dylan came to see me at 12 days old.  He even brought his fur-sister!  I’ve had dogs in the photo studio a few times now with their newborns and I am loving this addition to the photography session.  Pets are an important part of the family too, your baby’s first and probably best friend- these families will treasure these portraits forever.

Dylan’s session was styled in blue and gray, with very few props.  I love working without props, and letting the baby be the focus of the image.  Far too often props can be a distraction in the picture, catching the attention instead of the beautiful baby’s face.  My client’s come to me to capture images of their new baby – not a cute new hat I’ve got, or trendy headband.  I don’t ever want your memories to look “dated”, as my baby photos from the 1980’s do.  Yes, props can enhance an image and that is how I strive to use them- to enhance the beauty of your baby, bring focus to the tiny subject, and show the emotion of the moment.

Here are a few simply beautiful baby portraits of 12 day old Dylan and his family.

Jennifer’s Maternity | Pregnancy Photography

Lots of maternity sessions this month- getting ready for all of the May/June babies!   More often than not lately, I’m getting requests for moody black and white maternity pictures.  These are some of my favourite to do!  The dramatic lighting enhances the emotion of the mom-to-be, and really shows off her changing body in a beautifully artistic way.

Enjoy these from a recent session with Jennifer.  She is a glowing mama to be, expecting her baby to arrive this week.  What do you think, girl or boy?  Another trend I’m seeing is lots of parents keeping the gender a surprise!  I love this – my first was a surprise and I loved every minute!  That minute you meet your baby is incredible – and in my opinion, made even more so by finding out the gender for the first time.

I think baby girl- we’ll soon see if I am correct!

Kelly Rawlinson Accredited in Children and Infant Portrait

I’m very happy to announce that I have received my second accreditation with the PPOC (Professional Photographers Of Canada) in Children and Infant Portraiture.

PPOC press releaseWhat is Accreditation, exactly?
“The Accreditation process recognizes photographers who have reached a nationally accepted standard of proficiency and knowledge in photographic arts. An Accreditation is achieved by submitting ten images in a chosen category to a PPOC Board of Review. This peer-reviewed program challenges candidates to demonstrate their capability of delivering exceptional quality photography in a chosen category. In assessing Accreditation Submissions, the judges consider the following criteria: Impact, Creativity, Style, Composition, Presentation, Color Balance, Centre of Interest, Lighting, Subject Matter, Quality, Technique, and Story Telling.”  See more at

Why is this important?
It is important to me to have been deemed by the judges and PPOC as able to delivery above-average high quality photographic art, to you my clients.  I hope it gives you a confidence in my ability as a photographer and the trust that I will provide you with photographs that are not only technically correct, but also show the beauty, emotions and relationships of the people in those photos- your family.
What is involved with achieving accreditation?
Entrants are expected to submit 10 images of 10 different scenes, 10 different subjects and from 10 different photo sessions. The entrant must be able to prove to the judges, through a good variety and cross section of subject matter, the photographer’s expertise in a chosen field.  Each submission is judged by a panel of judges who look at each image, and the submission as a whole.  The entry is accepted only if all images show above average exceptional quality photography in the chosen category.
Here are the images that I included in this successful accreditation submission!
