Jennifer’s Maternity | Pregnancy Photography

Lots of maternity sessions this month- getting ready for all of the May/June babies!   More often than not lately, I’m getting requests for moody black and white maternity pictures.  These are some of my favourite to do!  The dramatic lighting enhances the emotion of the mom-to-be, and really shows off her changing body in a beautifully artistic way.

Enjoy these from a recent session with Jennifer.  She is a glowing mama to be, expecting her baby to arrive this week.  What do you think, girl or boy?  Another trend I’m seeing is lots of parents keeping the gender a surprise!  I love this – my first was a surprise and I loved every minute!  That minute you meet your baby is incredible – and in my opinion, made even more so by finding out the gender for the first time.

I think baby girl- we’ll soon see if I am correct!

Kelly Rawlinson Accredited in Children and Infant Portrait

I’m very happy to announce that I have received my second accreditation with the PPOC (Professional Photographers Of Canada) in Children and Infant Portraiture.

PPOC press releaseWhat is Accreditation, exactly?
“The Accreditation process recognizes photographers who have reached a nationally accepted standard of proficiency and knowledge in photographic arts. An Accreditation is achieved by submitting ten images in a chosen category to a PPOC Board of Review. This peer-reviewed program challenges candidates to demonstrate their capability of delivering exceptional quality photography in a chosen category. In assessing Accreditation Submissions, the judges consider the following criteria: Impact, Creativity, Style, Composition, Presentation, Color Balance, Centre of Interest, Lighting, Subject Matter, Quality, Technique, and Story Telling.”  See more at ppoc.ca.

Why is this important?
It is important to me to have been deemed by the judges and PPOC as able to delivery above-average high quality photographic art, to you my clients.  I hope it gives you a confidence in my ability as a photographer and the trust that I will provide you with photographs that are not only technically correct, but also show the beauty, emotions and relationships of the people in those photos- your family.
What is involved with achieving accreditation?
Entrants are expected to submit 10 images of 10 different scenes, 10 different subjects and from 10 different photo sessions. The entrant must be able to prove to the judges, through a good variety and cross section of subject matter, the photographer’s expertise in a chosen field.  Each submission is judged by a panel of judges who look at each image, and the submission as a whole.  The entry is accepted only if all images show above average exceptional quality photography in the chosen category.
Here are the images that I included in this successful accreditation submission!

St. Patrick’s Day Cakesmash | Georgina Children’s Photographer

Cake Smash birthday sessions are a great way to celebrate your child’s first birthday.  With so many spring birthdays I tend to do a lot of these at this time of year.  They are so much fun – for the parents and I too!

I feel absolutely honoured to be asked once again to photograph a very talented wedding photographer’s child, Easton.   Easton is a sweetheart with big personality, and he warmed right up to me – camera-in-front-of-face is totally familiar to him, hehe!   St. Patrick’s Day is his birthday, and the theme we used for the session.  Shooting on green was completely new to me, and a nice bright change.

Thank you Elizabeth and Richard- it was a pleasure to spend some time together and photograph your little boy.  Happy First Birthday Easton!

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, Elizabeth is incredibly talented and a pleasure to work with. Check out her work!http://www.e-photography.ca/

7 days new, Aria | Keswick newborn photographer

This little peach is my new niece, Aria!  So happy for my sister-in-law, who now has a beautiful baby girl to join her two big brothers.   Aria came in to be photographed at 7 days old.  My recommendation is 6 to 10 days of age for the best chance at capturing those sweet sleepy, curly newborn poses.  It’s best to plan ahead and book your session while in your third trimester- to ensure a spot on my calendar as well as having the planning all done so that you are not worrying about that while also learning to care for your new little bundle of joy.

At your pre-consultation (in person, or on the phone) we’ll go over all of the details- what colours you like, blanket, basket, bucket, or fur props you want me to use, poses that you must have.  Also, what to wear, and how to prepare baby for the session, and what to expect.  Then when session day arrives you can relax and know that the details are taken care of.  Everything will be set up when you arrive, and you can sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy the experience.

Here are just a few images from Aria’s newborn collection.
